February is the perfect month to celebrate the heart! With Valentine’s Day around the corner and American Heart Awareness month, now more than ever, is “a great time to commit to a healthy lifestyle”, according to the CDC (Center for Disease Control).
Heart Disease is the leading cause of death for men and women around the globe. Simple changes in your lifestyle, such as regular doctor visits, exercise and healthy eating, can ultimately make a big impact on your heart and the longevity of your life!
Heart Disease, also know as Cardiovascular Disease is especially known to affect our aging population. Causes of Heart Disease include narrowed or blocked blood vessels or issues that affect the heart muscle, valves or rhythm. Heart Disease can cause strokes, chest pain and the most common, heart attack.
Symptoms to take note of are swollen lower limbs, fatigue, dizziness, trouble breathing and bloating in the abdomen.
“New studies have shown that the risk factors that can lead to heart disease and stroke, such as high blood pressure, physical inactivity and obesity, also contribute to dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, memory loss and cognitive dysfunction”, According to Ralph Sacco, M.D., chief of neurology at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami and past president of the American Heart Association.
It is never too late to start building a healthy lifestyle and a healthy heart!
