The PBS special: Alzheimer’s: Every Minute Counts aired this past Wednesday evening. The documentary took us through the daily routines of several individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Alzheimer’s, a generative brain disease, affects an individuals memory, ability to think and function.
Also known as the most common form of dementia, Alzheimer’s currently affects 5 million individuals throughout the country and the numbers continue to skyrocket.
Every one minute in the United States, and every four seconds around the world, someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Many physicians and researchers feel Alzheimer’s, in the future, will be the financial sink hole of the healthcare system.
The cost of living and caring for someone with Alzheimer’s far exceeds the costs associated with cancer and heart disease. It is a growing epidemic and in order to stop it we need the funding to find a cure.
Currently, there are no effective preventatives, no treatments, and no cure!
