August 20, 2024
At Heather Glen Senior Living, the maintenance department plays a vital role in ensuring that our community remains a safe, comfortable and welcoming place for all of our residents. At the head of this department is Brian Williamee, our Maintenance Director, whose journey to this role has been shaped by a lifetime of hands-on experience and a deep commitment to his work.
The road to Heather Glen Senior Living
Brian’s background in maintenance began early, with his first job laying the foundation for his skills in construction and problem-solving by building decks alongside his stepbrother. His career progressed as he took on a role with Millard Refrigerated Services, where he quickly advanced to site foreman, and this position honed his ability to manage large-scale projects and coordinate teams effectively. Following this, Brian spent eight years working in property management, a role that further solidified his expertise and prepared him for the responsibilities he now has at Heather Glen Senior Living.
The day-to-day responsibilities
As the Maintenance Director, Brian’s day is anything but routine. First, he’ll start by setting a list of assignments he hopes to accomplish throughout the day, but in this role, you have to be ready to multitask. His work requires the use of multiple tools and a strong ability to troubleshoot, ensuring that any issues are resolved efficiently and effectively, but his ability to navigate the demands of the job is a testament to his experience and dedication.
“The most challenging part is trying to keep everyone happy while multitasking and getting jobs done in a timely manner,” he notes.
Despite these challenges, Brian takes pride in the work he and his team are able to accomplish, and he’s particularly proud of how he’s been able to find solutions to problems that previously seemed almost impossible to figure out. Investing in the right tools and keeping a well-stocked inventory has also been key to addressing issues as they arise, and preventative maintenance is another critical aspect of Brian’s role as Maintenance Director.
“It’s very important to keep up with maintenance so we don’t have unexpected breakdowns,” he explains.
From fixing issues to fostering connections
Beyond the technical aspects of his job, Brian finds immense joy in the relationships he’s built at Heather Glen Senior Living.
“The people—residents and employees—make you feel at home,” Brian shares, “Seeing the faces of residents and how thankful they are that you were able to fix any issues that they had is great. A simple thank you goes a long way, and everyone is super friendly.”
Looking ahead, Brian has clear goals for the maintenance department, and one goal in particular is to secure a storage shed for the team.
“The shed would be so I can have everything in one place and keep track of inventory as well as have a sign in sheet for tools to ensure the safety of our residents,” he explains.
This focus on organization and safety reflects Brian’s ongoing commitment to improving the department and, ultimately, the experience of everyone at Heather Glen Senior Living.
