Creating Connections—Introducing Our Activities Director, Becky Trollinger
March 19, 2024
At Heather Glen Senior Living, our commitment to providing exceptional care further extends to fostering an enriching and fulfilling lifestyle for all of our residents, and a central part to this mission is our Activities Director, Becky Trollinger. Becky’s passion for her work and her wealth of additional experience in therapeutic recreation have left an indelible mark on our community, and we can’t wait to see everything she continues to bring to Heather Glen Senior Living.
A passion ignited by childhood memories
Becky’s journey to Heather Glen Senior Living began much earlier than most—realizing her passion for her future career early on in her teenage years.
“Growing up, I lived next door to an elderly couple. On rainy days, my sister and I used to go to their house and play board games with them,” Becky explains. “They shared their stories with us, and we had a great time.”
Then, at the age of 15, Becky secured a job at a nearby nursing home, where she joined the dining department staff. Immersed in the daily routines of the community, she found her experiences with the residents to be profoundly enriching. It was during this job that she truly discovered her calling—witnessing first hand the transformative power of engaging activities on the residents’ well-being. Over time, Becky transitioned to working in the Therapeutic Recreation department, and as she says, the rest is history.
Exciting opportunities await
With years of experience as both a Therapeutic Recreation Assistant and an Activities Director, Becky has honed her craft in creating activities that resonate with each individual’s unique interests and backgrounds. She emphasizes the importance of building rapport and understanding individual preferences, drawing inspiration from residents’ lifetime of experiences to curate engaging programs. Whether through music, social gatherings or tailored programs, she strives to create a vibrant community where everyone can participate and thrive.
Becky’s background in therapeutic recreation equips her with a distinctive insight into addressing the diverse needs of seniors. With a knack for adapting activities and fostering a sense of pride and accomplishment, she ensures that everyone can find joy and fulfillment in our community. As we look to the future, residents can anticipate an array of exciting activities and events on the horizon.
“We have theater trips scheduled to see some of the local high school productions, summer concerts in the park and creative expression classes—you are never too old to try something new,” Becky says. “Having social and entertaining activities is important, as is BINGO, but it is also essential to challenge residents with stimulating activities like art classes, a drama club and a writing group to name a few.”
Finding fulfillment in making memories
Above all, what brings Becky the greatest satisfaction is the opportunity to make a positive impact on residents’ lives. Through shared smiles, cherished memories and meaningful connections, she finds fulfillment in knowing that she’s making a difference every day.
“Over the years, I have met so many residents and families who have left a handprint on my heart,” Becky shares. “I am blessed to have a job where I love what I do!”
At Heather Glen Senior Living, Becky embodies our commitment to fostering a vibrant and engaging environment where residents can thrive. With her unwavering dedication and boundless creativity, she continues to enrich the lives of all who call our community home, and we can’t wait to see what the future brings.
